3 years ago today I ran my first half marathon!
Andrew was 1 and Will was about to turn 3, and I did half my training runs with the double jogging stroller.
It was one of those “how can we do this?” kinds of things.
Looking back, it seems so crazy. That’s a lot of weight to push around on most of my runs!
I did a lot to make half marathon training work for that first race. From 5 a.m. runs to pushing 40 pounds of toddler up hills and trying to keep them happy in the stroller, I put in some effort to get to that starting line.
Looking back, I’m more impressed now with what I did than I was at the time. Back then, the running itself impressed me the most. Now, the logistics of scheduling those runs and the amount of stroller and sunrise running I did is the craziest to me!
Sometimes I miss the company of the kids in the stroller… but now I’m just chasing them while they bike and scooter instead!
Thanks for reminding me of MY first half marathon! I’ve enjoyed following your blog from when you (and I) trained for that Diva half, albeit you from up north, and me locally in Virginia. We were actually running near each other at one point during that race 😉 I have enjoyed your posts so much over the years, and what you’ve discovered along your running journey.
It’s hard to believe it’s been this long! I wish I’d connected with you on that (crazy, long, winding, half dirt, totally hilly) road!
How coincidental! I’m running my anniversary half marathon this weekend, but it’s 2 years for me.
This post made me think of some of the (non-running) logistics/scheduling I did when my kids were little, like working a split-shift. Coworkers thought I was nuts, but I saved thousands of $ over the years not paying for daycare – I worked a few hours in the a.m., came home and hubby went to work, then when he came home, I went back to work in the evening.
Next month, my youngest turns 18. They grow up so fast. *sigh*
Ahh, that’s amazing, I hope you have a great race this weekend!
The race was great. Not only did I PR, but I can cross off a running bucket list item – I ran the entire 13.1 without stopping to walk. Yay me!
Yes!!! That’s fantastic, congratulations!
